We run four over the board events:
Our "Flag-Ship event. A classical, "all-Play-All", chess event played over a long time limit. The winner becoming the Club Champion.
The Bray is names after our long time Chairman and father of the club Peter Bray who, with his wonderful wife Heather, has hosted the club at his home for five decades. We are eternally grateful and thankful to Peter and Heather for their most generous hospitality.
The Mike Roberts' Memorial Trophy
A "fun" event inaugurated following the tragic death of Mike Roberts a member of the club back in the early 1990s the event is played over a short timeframe and is completed in one evening
A fast pased event with both players having just 5 minutes on their clock at the start of the game. Games are played in a "party" atmosphere and are not taken too seriously. The evening really does have an emphasis on the words fun and laughs. We play this event in December and some of us venture for a curry after the chess. The name was coined to mark our long-time secretary. In his younger days Marc Wakeham played all his chess like it was Blitz.
When Covid struck in 2020 we moved to play our games via the internet. Returning to “Over the Board” (OTB) in 2023 when we began to run both OTB and On-Line tournaments.
